What is a permissioned blockchain network?

A permissioned blockchain is a closed distributed ledger that can only be accessed by specific users who are given “permission” to process transactions. Typically, permissioned blockchains have specific actions that are authorized by the ledger’s administrators. A permissioned blockchain’s infrastructure can be more easily customized and can be programmed with features like KYC and AML verification.
